Into the Deep · A 5 Day Play-full Intuition Painting® Retreat on Ocracoke Island

$1,500.00

I’ve been going to Ocracoke in the winters for over 30 years now to meet and share a house with friends, and to enjoy the absolute peaceful beauty of that island in the winter. And as soon as I leave I am looking forward to getting back there again. It’s not just the island experience, 16 miles of National Seashore Coastline with not a single house along the beach and the quiet winter village of full time residents that make it so peaceful. It’s not just the chance to bike, kayak, and stroll along that endless shore. It’s spending time with others, sharing meals, telling stories, having an experience that is often rare in our grown up world these days.

I go to “get away” and remember what’s important to me. It’s not quick or easy to get there and that’s part of what makes it so special. But the time spent there, from the moment I get on the ferry to the moment I get back off later that week, is what feeds me for the whole year. Experiencing Nature at her purest, unfettered by beach houses and clutter. You can only get to the island on a ferry; over two hours each way from Swans Quarter or Cedar Island or about 30 minutes from Hatteras. You really feel like you are “leaving it all behind.” And who doesn’t need some of that these days. A time to get away from all that can keeps our minds so full.

Come on Sunday evening and stay until Friday morning and leave with the memory of good work, new friends and the beauty that only Ocracoke and the Atlantic Ocean in winter can give you. In between we’ll have five days of slow mornings, beach walks, wandering, music, good food, and the particular kind of wonder that only surfaces when given enough time and space. And of course the in-depth experience of an Intuition Painting process that helps you get in touch with your deeper self.

This is Wondering Path Studio's first destination retreat, and it is designed for people who are ready play a little again. I have discovered that the very act of judgement-free creativity can beckon my soul out to express itself and at times, share some things I just hadn’t “thought about!” And the more that happens, the more I feel in touch with the whole me.

We will be painting in the town’s newest treasure, The Commons. The Ocracoke Preservation Society saved this historic building in 2018 and have been working hard to create a space that will serve the community year round. We will be one of their inaugural events and will have space there for 5 days and staying across the island at “Southern Comfort.”

What the week holds:

Four in-depth Intuition Painting® sessions which will give us the full six-phase process spread across multiple days, with plenty of time between sessions to let what emerged settle, surface, and speak. This retreat is not rushed and we will have time to let the process have room to breathe. These four, 3-hour painting sessions will be scheduled around the weather that we find on the island, so we can try and get the best of all things! Another way we will be flexible and going with what emerges! And there will be plenty of time for just being in the rhythm of Nature and friends.

Ocracoke in late winter is quiet, wild, and beautiful. Weather permitting, we'll be outside. Walking the beach, moving our bodies, letting the salt air do what salt air does. The home we are staying in has good outside space and has one double kayak at the ready. More kayaks and beach bikes are available for rental with prior notice.

Hopefully I can arrange a jam session with local musicians and friends. Many factors influence this happening, so no guarantees, but if you play, bring your instrument, voice, listening ears. Sharing the particular joy of making music together in a room full of people who have spent the week learning to let themselves lose the feeling of being judged is such a treat. I’ll bring my bass and a book full of songs!

We will have meals together with breakfast, lunch and dinner provided as part of the workshop. I will take your dietary restrictions into consideration as we build the weekly menu, so please state those when you register.
